Regional Searching

Frustrated by search results from the other side of the country, or even the other side of the world?
UKSearch.com has a unique solution for you...

A huge number of sites in our index are classified according to their exact location in the UK. The indexing robots use a number of rules to accurately classify pages by town, city or region. If the geographical location is not relevant to the products or services offered by the site, it is left unclassified.

This means that UKSearch.com can provide much more relevant results for searches which are aimed at a specific area. Try these:

When you perform a regional search, the results are re-ordered based on their proximity to the area you search for.
We call this your Search Centre.

Our example search of 'Surfing near Swansea', will return results from the Swansea area, followed by surrounding towns, followed by South Wales, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, followed by the whole of Wales.

How do I perform a regional search?

To trigger a regional search, enter in, near, close to or around after your keyword/s, followed by a place name. For example:

From the homepage you can also either click on the map to select a region or click on the Regional search tab. You can then use the drop down menus to 'drill down' from county to town to village level if you wish. When you have entered your search and selected a location or area to search 'from' - a Search Centre, just click Search as normal.

When you use the regional search option, you effectively get the same set of results as you would from a default UK search, but they are re-ordered to 'radiate out' geographically from the Search Centre you selected.

Why can't I use any search engine and just include the name of the town or region in the search?

Search engines (as opposed to directories) index actual pages on web sites. Most sites only have their business address on a 'contact' page and do not include relevant town, city or region they serve on other pages.

The 'regionally aware' robots ensure that all pages are classified. This increases the number and the relevance of results returned for your search.

I have found a site which is in the wrong region

You will find a link on the right at the top of the regional search results section, titled 'Result in wrong region?'. Please report any sites that have been classified in error. The results will become more and more refined over time.
